چکیده

Detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DSD) is defined as an external urethral anomalous contraction concomitant to detrusor during voiding, due a neurological disease. It commonly occurs in suprasacral spinal cord-injured (SCI) patients and can be associated with autonomic dysreflexia. DSD generates risks the urinary system overall health; hence, it should promptly diagnosed managed. Bladder neck condition that integrated assessment. We reviewed literature indexed PubMed/Medline on evaluation methods of SCI patients. Urodynamics mainstay method has prognostic value for progression upper tract structural degradation renal function decline. found lack consensus optimal urodynamics configuration when evaluating DSD, especially obtaining measuring signal from (EUS) activity. appears combination recordings voiding cystourethrography EUS electromyography, either or without pressure measurement, most accurate available DSD. While gathering articles, we came across interesting approach past: coupled ultrasound imaging. Despite being considered valuable diagnostic standpoint by some prominent authors, no longer represented current literature. In addition instrumental diagnosis, health professionals consider additional clinical features managing patients, design customized plan achieve best compromise between quality life protection.

Botulinum A toxin as a treatment of detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia in patients with spinal cord injury: MRI controlled transperineal injections.

OBJECTIVES To correlate clinical and urodynamic findings with MRI in patients with spinal cord injury and detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia who were consecutively treated with transperineal injections of botulinum-A toxin (BTX-A) under EMG control. METHODS Six patients with spinal cord injury and upper motor neuron bladder dysfunction associated with detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia were prospecti...

Oral nitric oxide donors: a new pharmacological approach to detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia in spinal cord injured patients?

PURPOSE Detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia is a common cause of bladder outlet obstruction in spinal cord injured patients and leads to poor bladder emptying and high bladder pressures, which if left untreated might cause renal failure. In this study, we tested the recently published hypothesis that oral administration of a nitric oxide donor could be a new pharmacological approach to treat detruso...

AIMS A retrospective analysis of our seven-year experience with the Memokath urethral stent for the treatment of detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DSD) in spinal cord injured (SCI) patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS Twenty five patients with SCI underwent rhabdosphincter Memokath stent insertion. The mean age was 45.5 years (range 32-65 years). The level of injury was cervical in 14 and thoracic in...
